You are asked to review a 70-year-old gentleman in the preadmission clinic. He has been referred for assessment prior to a gastroscopy for variceal banding in four weeks' time.
Past Medical History
Cirrhosis secondary to sarcoidosis
Medications
Ferrous sulfate/ascorbic acid 325 mg/500 mg daily
Propranolol 10 mg twice a day
Pantoprazole 40 mg daily
Ursodeoxycholic acid 30 mg daily
Observations
Height 180 cm
Weight 65 kg
Body Mass Index 20 kg/m2
Blood pressure 110/80 mmHg
Heart rate 80 beats per minute
SpO2 95% on room air
Temperature 36.5 oC
